Welome to the Festival of Language
We are a community of readers and writers, lovers of words and language.
The festival was started in 2009 by Jane L. Carman as a way to celebrate language and those who play in and manipulate its margins.
Premiering in 2009 as an offsite event at the AWP (Association of Writers & Writing Programs) conference, The Festival of Language is a celebration of art dedicated to innovation and inclusion.
We began as a gathering of about a dozen readers and participants and have rapidly grown. In 2013, the Boston event brought in 50 readers at one event, 20 at the other, and a total of over 300 participants and attendees for the year. In 2014 (Seattle) and 2015 (Minneapolis), attendance had grown exponentially with the Festival of Language's AWP kickoff event lasting over seven hours with nearly 70 readers.
The Festival of Language and a reading eXperiment have also made appearences at the M/MLA Annual Convention, the Society of the Study of Midwestern Literature conference, and as an official panel at AWP.
